Years ago, Georgia Kefala and George Kalafatas, driven by their passion and deep love for animals, decided to create a little paradise for all ages. This is how the Farma of Rhodes was born, originally a modest ostrich farm that soon welcomed lemurs, camels, deer, kangaroos, and many other friendly animals. What made it even more special? The family’s home was right inside the farm, because for them, animals were always part of the family.
The Farma of Rhodes quickly became a favorite spot for both children and adults, offering unforgettable experiences where visitors could feed, pet, and interact with animals in a natural and welcoming environment. It remains one of the most authentic and heartwarming family activities in Rhodes, perfect for kids and parents alike.
But the journey hasn’t always been easy. In the summer of 2021, a devastating wildfire caused extensive damage to the farm, even the family’s house was lost to the flames. The local community immediately came to help, bringing food and medical supplies for the animals, while supporters from around the world rallied to support the farm’s recovery. Thanks to this outpouring of care, the family managed to reopen the farm, stronger and more united than ever.
Today, the farm is run by the couple’s three children, Yiannis, Nikos, and Angelos, who grew up among the animals and now continue the legacy with the same passion and love their parents instilled in them.
Beyond its daily operations, Farma of Rhodes embraces its role in society through tangible social responsibility. Since 2022, it has hosted the “Rhodes Green Festival” every year, with free admission, aiming to raise awareness about the environment and animal welfare. The event brings together volunteers, scouts, and veterinarians, transforming the farm into a space for education, fun, and meaningful interaction.
